The
Zero
Net
AnnouncementIn the fall of 2003,
Zero Net, LLC,
announced that it was changing the way homes are
built. Zero Net was founded by John
Trickel, who also founded VGI Design. The Zero
Net team developed a new whole-house envelope
system for home building.

No More 2x4s.
This new system for home building was
based on the fact that the use of 2x4s in home
construction, the construction method used in 90
percent of U.S. homes, does not create a super
energy efficient home.
First Home Being Built
ZeroNet entered a
partnership with Alliant Energy, headquartered
in Madison, Wisconsin, to build the first ever
full-sized home to use the Zero Net building
system. Building of what is know as the
PowerHouse Home was built in Newton, Iowa.
Newton is about a half-hour east of Des Moines.
The home offers many energy efficient and
high-tech features.
